During this time they have developed from a small regional grower’s co-operative in to what they are today – a grower’s group geographically spread across all the principal production areas of the UK, with overseas partners and suppliers who represent the very best berry producers in their respective countries, and key supplier status with the UK high street. By working closely with like-minded overseas growers Berry Gardens are able deliver quality fruit twelve months of the year.

Farming fruit runs through the veins of the Chambers family, who have been successfully growing fruit in Kent for a number of generations.
The current business was set up by WB Chambers in 1952. Third generation owner and present managing director Tim Chambers took over the reins of running the family’s farms in 1990, focusing on soft fruit and cherry production.
The business currently home produces berries and stone fruit across 14 locations in the UK with a production area spanning 400 hectares (1000 acres) and propagating 1.5m plants per annum (for production in the UK and selected European sites). Chambers signed up to an international Rubus Breeding Consortium Agreement in Autumn 2015, which sees existing genetic resources at East Malling Services – the commercial division of East Malling Research – being used to produce a new generation of improved ‘traditional’ raspberry varieties as well as a number of new varieties for the professional and amateur markets. Tim Chambers is Chairman of the Consortium.
Whilst the business has expanded, Chambers’ founding principles - which focus on quality, provenance, traceability and supplying the freshest berries direct from the farm - remain true.

The Wilkin family have been farming at Tiptree, Essex, since 1757, and making quality preserves since 1885. They grow a wide range of traditional English fruits and use them to make conserves, condiments, and other treats in our nut-free factory by the farm. They received their first Royal Warrant from George V in 1911, and remain Royal Warrant holders as purveyors of Tiptree Products to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Every member of staff is part of their Employee Benefit Trust, giving each a keen interest in the future of the business.
The farm is LEAF Marque accredited (Linking Environment and Farming), recognising that they work sympathetically with the environment and encourage links with the local community. Fruit crops include strawberries, raspberries, mulberries, Morello cherries, rhubarb, damson, Victoria plum, greengage, quince, and the curious medlar. Where they cannot grow their own crops, they buy the best quality fruit from trusted sources, such as Seville for marmalade oranges. Their signature fruit is the Little Scarlet strawberry, a tiny wild variety, that is very difficult to grow and to harvest. They believe that they are unique in the world in growing this remarkable crop, but it is worth it for the depth of flavour that it provides.
